When Ducks Take Over!

This year, the Office of University Advancement launched the Senior Class Gift and Duck Derby to introduce philanthropic giving to the outgoing 2017 senior class.

Duck Derby 2017Leading up to the Duck Derby, students, faculty, staff and administration had the opportunity to help the senior class reach a fundraising goal of $500 for the Carlow Fund by purchasing rubber ducks for $5.00 or a $20.00 purchase of a “Quack Pack” which included four rubber ducks and a t-shirt. To up the ante even more, four members of our university board of trustees, Larry Karnoff, JD, Deborah Rice Johnson ’09, Michele R. Atkins ’82 and George R. Whitmer, along with university president Dr. Suzanne Mellon, pledged to donate up to $3,000 if the students met their goal.

We are extremely happy to announce that not only did the students meet their goal but they exceeded it by raising $765, making the total $3,765 as the first Carlow Fund gift for the Class of 2017. To celebrate this accomplishment all purchased ducks were then raced in the first ever Duck Derby down the waterfall next to University Commons. What a a fun and exciting day to celebrate this great accomplishment!

Special thanks to the Dr. Frances Kelley for bringing her duck, Raisin, as the mascot for the day; to the Senior Class Gift committee and to the Carlow staff that worked hard to bring everything to fruition.
