Dr. Robert Reed, Professor in the Department of Psychology & Counseling

Bob Reed wears many hats – a Professor in the Department of Psychology & Counseling at Carlow, a Licensed Psychologist, a Certified School Psychologist. But if you ask him what he is most proud of he has a simple answer: “Our alumni! Our department produces some really fine graduates, whether they be undergraduate, master’s or doctoral level, who are making a difference in their community.”

And while we wholeheartedly agree with him, we think he might be selling himself a little short:

In a 27-year career at Carlow University, which began when Sr. Rita Flaherty hired him to teach PY205 Child Psychology, Dr. Reed has served as an advocate for his discipline; launching the undergraduate psychology major within the evening CAP program; and expanding the Department’s offerings to both master’s and doctoral level training. In fact, the Doctorate in Counseling Psychology was Carlow’s first ever doctoral program and would not have been possible without his leadership as Chair of the Department.

Dr. Reed retired at the end of the school year, but he leaves behind an incredible legacy which you can continue to support - a thriving Psychology program that produces talented professionals from across the region; hundreds of undergraduate students who have been guided, challenged and inspired by his dedication and expertise; over 40 graduate students who received their doctoral degree because of his tireless work and leadership; and the countless number of people who have sought help from the social workers, counselors, and psychologists who are proud Carlow alumni.

By making a gift in his honor today, you can support the kind of values-driven education and ethical training to which Dr. Reed dedicated many years, and that are now imbued in the department and curriculum he helped create.
